Usage and Materials

• On which materials can I use The Mayan Oil?
  Our 100% natural oil and wax are designed as a universal protective solution. In addition to all types of wood (softwood, hardwood, exotic), it is exceptionally effective on metal, natural stone, leather, plastic, epoxy resin, and many other materials.
• Is it safe for kitchen countertops or children’s toys?
  Yes. Thanks to its purely natural composition, free from harsh chemicals and synthetic solvents, our product is completely safe for surfaces in contact with food as well as items used by children.
• Can I apply the oil over an old coat of paint or lacquer?
  For maximum effectiveness and deep penetration, we recommend removing (sanding down) old lacquers and paints. The oil needs to soak into the material’s pores, which old coatings prevent.
  
  

Protection and Durability

• How often does the coating need to be renewed?
  Indoors, the protection lasts for many years. For outdoor use, where the wood is exposed to direct UV radiation and rain, we recommend a preventive check and revival of the coating every 1 to 2 years, depending on the level of exposure and wear.
• Does The Mayan Oil protect against rot and pests?
  Yes. Through deep penetration, it fills the wood pores from the inside. This prevents the absorption of moisture—the primary cause of mold and rot—while simultaneously creating an environment unsuitable for wood-boring insects.
  
  

Application and Coverage

• What is the correct way to apply Mayan Oil and Wax?
  Application is simple: using a sponge, abrasive fleece (Scotch-Brite), brush, or roller, apply a thin layer to a dry, clean surface. Let it soak in, and after approximately 45–60 minutes, wipe off any unabsorbed excess with a clean cloth.
• What is the coverage of The Mayan Oil?
  Coverage depends on the material’s absorbency. Generally, one package covers 15–45 m² per coat, depending on the material type and, for wood, the sanding grit. Consumption is significantly lower on hardwoods and metals.
  
  

Specific Questions (Epoxy and Metal)

• Why should I use your product on epoxy resin?
  The Mayan Oil enhances the color depth of epoxy while protecting the wooden elements in hybrid projects (such as “river tables”), unifying the appearance of the entire surface.
• How does the protection work on metal?
  On metal, our oil and wax create an invisible hydrophobic film that shields the surface from oxidation (rust) and fingerprints while preserving the natural look of the metal.
